Conversations About FaithThis week we will be taking a look at Chapter 27: Who Needs Heaven Now? Do we truly live with the Beatitudes of the heart, as Jesus teaches us: “Blessed are they…”? Or do we sometimes live by secular Beatitudes like “God helps those who help themselves”? As Barbara Brown Taylor asks in Always a Guest: “What does this (the Beatitudes) have to do with real life? It’s been two thousand years, and the poor in spirit are still with us. Those who hunger for justice are still hungry. The mournful are still wiping away their tears, and the excluded are still waiting at the borders.” Can we still center our lives in faith and promise when the world around us, often through clickbait headlines, tells us something entirely different? These are deep, pressing questions. In response, we invite you to explore them together with Hanna Bear as our facilitator. On 3/16, we began a five-week faith conversation in the fellowship hall after the service (lasting about 45 minutes). Together, we use insights from Barbara Brown Taylor’s Always a Guest to reflect on these questions and search for meaning in our faith journey. You’re welcome to join us, whether or not you’ve read the book. If you’d like to follow along, Always a Guest is available on Amazon in print or Kindle. Even if “book studies” aren’t your thing, we hope you’ll come for the conversation, the listening, and the shared encouragement. All are welcome.
