Decorating my home for Christmas has been a time to reflect on the good memories of Christmases past. But not every Christmas has been joyful. One such Christmas was when I was in high school. My dad, who was in the Air Force, had been sent to Thailand for a year on remote duty. Christmas was going to be pretty dismal because he wasn’t going to be able to come home. We didn’t decorate the house or put up a tree. In fact, we didn’t even buy gifts. Nobody felt like celebrating. Then my mom got a call and my dad said he was coming home in two days. The house suddenly burst with activity and joy. We hurriedly got out the decorations and went to work transforming our house into a festive place. You wouldn’t have recognized it as the same house. Not only did our house look different but we were different. The excitement of one person coming home made all the difference.
We as Christians are in a festive mood because a special person is coming. We need to make our hearts ready for this special person. Jesus our Savior is coming. Let us find ways to share the joy that possesses our hearts.
